“Well done. Sandy is awesome.”
— Expository Writing: What Is Love?

Some of my most enjoyed student comments…

“Knows every single author by heart, very impressive professor.”

— Love, relationships, & ethics

“… just hearing Sandy speak in general makes me feel supported and provides me with a sense of direction.”

— expository writing: exploring the philosophy of love

“Take [this class] if you want to learn anything about Africa or anything about philosophy. If you do the readings and put in the intellectual work, you’ll do well.”

— African philosophy

“Always willing to help, both inside and outside the classroom. Was a very engaging teacher/came to section prepared. Was honest too (if she couldn’t figure out a problem—which rarely, if ever, happened—or made a mistake, she would be upfront about it and figure it out on her own time.) Friendly/smart. Would definitely recommend her. She’s taught me to persevere in my work, regardless of the difficulty of the problems. … Overall, Sandy is a phenomenal TA and human being.”

“Thank you very much for this class. This class has connected me and grounded me in a love of philosophy that I am now realizing has been present for a long time. My interest in love and relationships was particularly deep this year because of myriad experiences that have forced me to think about my own practices and theories in the work of love. The readings of this class have changed the way I think and our discussions in class have challenged my interpretations and my own personal pre-conceived theories on love. What I have learned from this class has permeated to my other course work and has also permeated into most aspects of my life. I have had so many wonderful and enlightening conversations with friends, peers, and relatives about the questions we have asked in this class. I think right now, at a time when so many forces are pushing us away from the hard questions and the hard work of love, this class is particularly necessary. If we want to develop ethical persons at Georgetown, we must have a forum for realizing the role of morality and ethics in loving relationships. We must also have a space for realizing the singular importance and meaning of love at all. This class has made me more grateful for the love that I already have in my life and has made me more loving in my practices towards others. Thank you so much. This has been such a treasurable experience.”
